Copyleft

An American Atheist is a copyleft show. The term ‘copyleft’ is used to illustrate it’s basic philosophical differences against the better known ‘copyright’. Technically, ‘copyleft’ licenses are still regular copyright licenses. But why is this even important?

We could let Larry Lessig explain it to you, but perhaps we’ll save you the trouble and explain it here: we believe current copyright law is strangling innovation. Or maybe it’s just that we’ve got a more liberal view when it comes to sharing media. Whatever’s going on, we think you should have the right to take this podcast, edit it, remix it, use clips from it or do anything else you want with it, as long as you credit us somewhere (e.g. this clip is from the American Atheist podcast).

You don’t even need to ask our permission. These are your rights. To be sure you understand the specific rights we’re talking about, see this page: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/us/
